| Overview: Many organisations manage their environmental and health & safety risks through an integrated EHS management system. Environmental, health, and safety (EHS) auditing is fast becoming a global practice as organizations around the world develop audit standards. It is a key tool for managing EHS performance and providing assurance about EHS matters to management.
This new five-day course combines the best material from our EMS and OHS auditor training courses and provides the knowledge and skills to effectively audit an organisation’s EHS management system using an integrated audit protocol. Such an integrated approach enables an organisation’s to optimise its use of resources and reduce the occurrence of “death by audit”.
The course is compliant with RABQSA International’s environmental and safety auditor competency standards. It also meets the training requirements for IRCA (UK) environmental and OH&S auditor certification.
Learning Outcomes
• Develop a detailed understanding of the various standards underpinning an integrated EHS system including ISO 14001, AS 4801 and OSHAS 18001.
• Explain the key differences between ISO 14001 and AS4801
• Appreciate the extent to which environmental and OH&S management systems can be integrated
• Understand the legal framework underpinning EHS issues
• Apply an integrated audit tool to verify that an integrated EHS management system is operating effectively and efficiently
• Identify EHS hazards/risks and assess the effectiveness of methodologies to control these hazards/risks
• Perform an audit of an EHS management system to standards acceptable to third party certification or similar level
• Understand the importance of audit evidence, corrective action and performance monitoring
• Develop practical audit reports that can be used as a basis for EHS system improvement.
Course Approvals:
This course provides a learning and assessment pathway to the following RABQSA International competency units:
RABQSA-AU: Management systems auditing
RABQSA-OH: Auditing OH&S management systems
RABQSA-EM: Auditing environmental management systems
RABQSA-TL: Leading management system audit teams
Participants assessed competent in both AU and EM or OH units will meet knowledge competency requirements necessary to register at auditor level with RABQSA International relevant auditor certification schemes. Participants additionally assessed as competent in the TL unit will also meet the knowledge requirements to register at the Lead Auditor level. There are however further requirements to register as auditors/ lead auditors with both RABQSA International (Australasia/USA) and the IRCA their (UK) equivalent.
